Maintenance And Upkeep Of Fire Water Pumps

May 19, 2025

When operating the fire pump, it is necessary to strictly follow the relevant operating regulations of the instrument in order to ensure safety and normal operation. Because fire pumps play a crucial role in the fire protection system, even a slight mistake can cause unexpected damage, especially when we encounter an emergency fire.

Overall, there are some steps:

1. The cable should be inspected at least once a year, and if it is damaged, it should be replaced.
2. Replace the sealing ring: After long-term use in sewage medium, the gap between the impeller and the sealing ring may increase, causing a decrease in the flow rate and efficiency of the fire pump. The electric switch should be turned off, the fire pump should be lifted, the bottom cover should be removed, the sealing ring should be removed, and the sealing ring should be matched according to the actual size of the impeller mouth ring. The gap is generally around 0.5mm.
3. Check the motor insulation and fastening screws at least once a year. If the motor insulation decreases, please contact the company. If the fastening screws become loose, please tighten them again.
4. When not in use for a long time, it should be cleaned and lifted in a ventilated and dry place, paying attention to antifreeze. If placed in water, it should be operated for at least 30 minutes every 15 days (without dry grinding) to check its function and adaptability.
5. The fire pump has been injected with an appropriate amount of engine oil before leaving the factory to lubricate the mechanical seal, and this engine oil should be checked once a year. If water is found in the engine oil, it should be drained, the engine oil should be replaced, the sealing gasket should be replaced, and the screw plug should be tightened. After three weeks, it must be rechecked. If the engine oil becomes emulsion again, the mechanical seal should be checked and replaced if necessary.

In the operation of fire pumps, the most important thing is to pay attention to safety and operate them in a standardized manner. When in use, it should be placed in a place that is conducive to ventilation, as this will dissipate heat faster and help lower the temperature of the motor. Otherwise, if it runs for too long, the motor will have problems, and high temperatures may also cause the motor to burn out. For example, some users may not remove the plastic film on the motor in advance during use, resulting in the motor running continuously and the temperature gradually rising without cooling measures. This can cause the motor to malfunction and cause the coil to burn out. So, the temperature of the motor is a big issue.

Before starting, it is necessary to check whether the water stored in the pump is sufficient, otherwise it will affect the function of the machine and may even burn out the shaft seal. In general, after the instrument is started, it will immediately return to its original state within about five minutes. If the water does not come out after the maximum time, there must be something wrong. At this time, the machine should be stopped immediately for a detailed inspection.

The details of inspection and maintenance of fire pumps can be operated step by step according to the specifications listed in the relevant manuals, and cannot be easily ignored.
